Let’s start out with the preface that there is no wrong way to adventure. I’m pretty sure we can all agree on that. Adventures come in many forms from a simple walk to ice climbing and base jumping. The one thing that all these adventures have in common is the fact that they take us out and away from our normal life or work environments, not to mention that we need a way to get to these locations to start our adventures. Some of you out there are those that subscribe to the full-time style, meaning that you either live in a location that is immersed in an adventure rich environment, or live a nomadic lifestyle in some sort of vehicle that allows you to peruse any and all adventures that you find along the way. The third is the weekend warrior that works all week and then has the need to escape that existence and propel yourself into some type of adventure on your days off.
I have lived all of these lifestyles and all are very rewarding in their own way. That said I have never felt more free than when I am out living in my van traveling all over the place and have the chance to explore new areas and meet new people. I have hiked, swam, mountain biked, kayaked, been out on what I call a Photo Safari out in nature taking photographs of nature and wildlife. The ability to just go and not be weighted down by a schedule is something I believe everybody should be able to experience in their lifetime at least once. I will say once you do it may change your life as it did mine. So this is your heads up that it can, and is addictive in so many good and amazing ways.
Again all adventures are good ones and should be sought out as often as possible. These are the things that fill us with joy and recharge our internal batteries. I believe that everyone should be outside in the sun and in nature as a regular activity, the health benefits alone give this belief a measure of validity. We all want to be healthy and live longer and more fulfilling lives. Laying on the coach stuffing down your favorite bag of chips or snacks isn’t going to get it done, in fact that will shorten your lifespan, just ask your doctor. Some of us plan our adventures weeks, months, and sometimes years in advanced based on the nature and type of logistics involved with said adventure.
There are others of us that just grab some gear and stuff it in our vehicle and drive as fast as we can to get out there and participate in an adventure with reckless abandon. I love that attitude and unbridled enthusiasm to just go and do. Those experiences are some of our most cherished memories when we look back and reflect on good times. Those moments seem to rise to the top and we seem to tell our fellow adventurers with as much gusto as we had while on that adventure. I will be honest it is sometimes hard to contain the passion we feel and have towards our experiences out in our happy places. We all want to be able to look back on those times share them and start to figure out where the next one will take place and with whom. I have made life long friends out exploring life on these adventures and feel so very blessed to have those opportunities and experiences.
If you have read through this and you find yourself saying yes, yes, yes I agree, then we are kindred spirits and are like minded, and just may have passed each other out on the adventure trails, roads, shores, or mountainsides of our grand quest for that great experience we call “Adventure”.
